Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has kicked off the disbursement of N2.4 billion as gratuities to pensioners who retired from the state public service in 2018 and 2019, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the welfare of retired workers. The exercise was flagged off on Monday in Akure.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Governor’s Office, Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the payment as a moral obligation to senior citizens who served the state diligently. He said many retirees had endured years of hardship due to delayed gratuity payments and assured that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare.
The Ondo State Government said 733 retirees will benefit from the exercise, including 391 retirees from 2018 and 342 retirees from 2019, drawn from the mainstream civil service, secondary school teaching and non-teaching service, and parastatals across the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also assured that other outstanding arrears would be addressed, stressing that his administration would not play politics with workers’ welfare. Officials added that gratuity payments for 2015, 2016 and 2017 Batch B retirees were earlier made in January 2026.
