El-Rufai To Seek Bail In Court After Mother’s Burial
Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, is scheduled to appear in the Federal High Court, Kaduna, today for the hearing of his bail application. El-Rufai, who has been in detention for over a month, was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa. The charges against him include a 10-count indictment involving the alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.

The former governor was initially produced in court following an extended period in custody, with the court setting March 31, 2026, as the date to hear all pending applications, including his request for bail. His legal team is expected to argue for his release pending the determination of the case, citing his cooperation and the nature of the charges.

The case took a somber turn on March 27, 2026, when the ICPC granted El-Rufai a temporary release on compassionate grounds. This followed the passing of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt. During this period, high-profile figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, visited the former governor to offer prayers and condolences. With the funeral rites now concluded, the court session is set to resume to decide on the status of his continued detention.
