The Federal Government has re-arraigned a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, on a five-count amended charge before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
At the proceedings, which had been scheduled for the commencement of trial, prosecution counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, informed the court that the government had filed an amended charge to replace the earlier one and that the defendants had already been served. Defence counsel confirmed service and did not oppose the substitution.
The amended charge was then read to the defendants, and both men pleaded not guilty to all counts. The court also allowed them to continue on the bail earlier granted to them.
Court reports indicate that the amended counts relate to allegations connected to preparation to commit acts of terrorism and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, including a firearm and cartridges allegedly recovered in Kebbi State. Some later reports described the amendment as narrowing or revising the earlier terrorism-financing allegations, but all agree the case remains before the court on the amended five-count charge.
Justice Abdulmalik subsequently adjourned the matter till May 26, 2026, for the prosecution to open its case by calling witnesses and tendering exhibits.
