At least 10 security personnel have been killed following a deadly ambush by gunmen in Kebbi State.
The attack occurred on Tuesday night in the Giro Masa community within Shanga Local Government Area, where armed assailants targeted security operatives responding to reports of an impending attack. The victims included nine soldiers and one police officer.
During the assault, the attackers reportedly set fire to military vehicles and left several others injured, while casualties were also recorded among civilians in the area.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, confirmed the incident after visiting injured personnel at a hospital in Birnin Kebbi. He condemned the killings, describing the attack as brutal and a significant loss to the nation, noting that the officers died while serving to protect lives and property.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the attack. Although no group has officially claimed responsibility, the incident highlights growing security concerns in parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups continue to carry out violent operations.
Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to pursuing the perpetrators and strengthening measures to prevent further attacks in the region.
