Jimoh Ibrahim Presents Letters of Credence to UN Chief, Assumes Role as Nigeria’s Envoy
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has formally presented his letters of credence to Secretary-General António Guterres, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic duties at the global body. The ceremony was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday, April 20, 2026.

The development was announced on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, who described the presentation as an important diplomatic step in Nigeria’s engagement with the international community.

With the presentation, Ibrahim is now fully accredited to represent Nigeria at the United Nations, where he is expected to engage in multilateral diplomacy and present the country’s position on key global issues.

The presentation of letters of credence is a formal diplomatic process through which an envoy is officially recognised by the receiving authority and empowered to speak and act on behalf of their country.
