Ahead of the 2027 elections, a coalition of former local council chairmen from Kwara State’s Ekiti bloc has petitioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, warning that 28 years of “political marginalization and perpetual servitude” by the dominant Igbomina ethnic group could shatter party unity and electoral fortunes in the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency. In a passionately worded letter dated May 8, 2026, addressed to the APC National Headquarters in Abuja, the group decried the alleged Igbomina bloc’s iron grip on the House of Representatives seat since the dawn of Nigeria’s democracy. The constituency, spanning four local government areas and split mainly between the Igbomina and Ekiti ethnic blocs, has seen “the Igbomina bloc consistently occupy the seat to the disadvantage of the Ekiti people,” they indicated.
“Our present outcry and agitation are based on the fact that, for almost 28 years, the Ekiti bloc deserves due consideration to address this political imbalance,”., framing the demand as a quest for “equity and fairness” in the upcoming federal polls. The petition was signed by Honourables Olaiya Bello, Dele Abiodun, Ayeni Yinka Dallas, Kehinde Bayode all former Chairmen of Ekiti local government area and Aminat Folake Yusuf and, Owolabi Michael Sunday, former local government Chairmen of Oke-Ero local government area on behalf of the Kwara-Ekiti Indigenous Stakeholders. They argued that the aspirants’ fierce contest for the Green Chamber ticket, risks “destroying mutual trust, ethnic understanding, and equitable power sharing.
” They painted paint a grim picture of Ekiti’s plight: crumbling road infrastructure, rampant unemployment, substandard healthcare, and broader underdevelopment—all tied to “limited access to power. ” They implored the APC leadership for “timely intervention” through “mutual respect, understanding, and negotiation,” rejecting any path of force.
“Use your good offices to salvage the Ekiti bloc from this constant democratic rape by our oppressors,” the group pleads, adding that liberation now would “reinvigorate our zeal to garner more votes for APC” and “douse the growing tension among political actors from both sides. ” Without action, they warned, disillusioned constituents may turn away, fueling apathy or defection.
