The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned the conduct of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja, describing it as a disruption of courtroom decorum.
Reports indicate that drama unfolded at the court when Sowore allegedly clashed with a Senior Advocate of Nigeria while attempting to address journalists inside the courtroom.
A video circulating online showed the lawyer confronting Sowore, insisting that the courtroom was not an appropriate venue for conducting a press briefing.
Reacting to the incident, the NBA, in a statement signed by its president, Afam Osigwe, emphasized that while courtrooms in a constitutional democracy are open to the public to promote transparency and public confidence, proceedings must be conducted with restraint, discipline, and respect for judicial authority.
The association stressed that maintaining decorum in court is essential to preserving the integrity of the judicial process and ensuring that justice is administered without disruption.
Observers say the incident has sparked wider conversations about the balance between freedom of expression and respect for institutional procedures within Nigeria’s legal system.
