Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with a stolen vehicle and successfully recovered the car in Akure.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the arrests followed a detailed investigation into a reported case involving conspiracy, theft, and possession of stolen property.
The incident was initially reported on February 27, 2026, by a resident, Adeyemi Robert, who stated that his Toyota Camry was stolen on February 14 while he attended a social event along Sijuade Street in Akure. He explained that the vehicle was parked outside the venue but was missing when he returned.
Police detectives immediately launched an investigation, deploying intelligence-gathering techniques and other strategies to track down the stolen vehicle and those responsible.
Their efforts led to the discovery of the car in the possession of a 40-year-old suspect, Awolo Akingbade, who was subsequently taken in for questioning. Further inquiries revealed that the vehicle had allegedly been sold to him by another suspect, identified as Adeyemi David, who was later apprehended.
Preliminary findings suggest that the main suspect stole the vehicle before selling it to the buyer. The recovered Toyota Camry has since been secured as evidence.
Police authorities confirmed that both suspects have provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations and have been charged to court following the conclusion of preliminary inquiries.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, commended the officers for their professionalism and reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to assist security agencies in combating crime.
