President Bola Tinubu has approved the removal of Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, elevating Taiwo Oyedele to take over leadership of the ministry. The decision was announced as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle by the Federal Government.
Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance, is expected to assume full responsibility as Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. He was only recently brought into the Federal Executive Council after his nomination and swearing-in earlier this year.
Reports say Wale Edun has been directed to hand over to Oyedele, bringing an end to his tenure at the Finance Ministry. The development marks one of the most significant economic portfolio changes in the current administration.
Oyedele, an economist and former chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, had been appointed Minister of State for Finance in March 2026. His elevation is expected to place him at the centre of Nigeria’s ongoing fiscal and economic reform efforts.
