Security operatives in Plateau State have arrested a 20-year-old suspect over an alleged Point-of-Sale (POS) fraud involving the sum of ₦1.5 million.
The suspect was apprehended following a complaint lodged by a POS operator who reported that the money was fraudulently withdrawn from their account.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly used deceptive means to gain access to the victim’s funds.
Police authorities disclosed that the arrest was made after tracking the transaction and gathering intelligence that led to the suspect’s location. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb rising cases of electronic and financial fraud in the state.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, providing useful information to investigators. The police also confirmed that steps are being taken to recover the stolen funds.
The command reiterated its commitment to tackling financial crimes and urged members of the public, especially POS operators, to remain vigilant and adopt stricter security measures to prevent fraud.
The suspect is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
