The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed that its newly launched airline, Gateway Air, is fully owned by the state, dismissing contrary claims circulating in some quarters.
This clarification was made by the governor’s aide on new media, Emmanuel Ojo, who stated that the aircraft acquired under the Gateway Air project belong entirely to the state government. He described reports suggesting otherwise as misleading and politically motivated.
According to him, while the state owns the aircraft, operational activities have been entrusted to a private aviation company, ValueJet, which manages flight services due to its technical expertise and regulatory experience in the industry.
He explained that the partnership was deliberately structured to ensure efficiency and sustainability, noting that running a full airline operation independently would present significant technical and regulatory challenges at the initial stage.
The aide further pointed out that ValueJet had already been operating flights within the state prior to the official unveiling of the airline, making it a suitable partner for the arrangement.
He also criticised individuals questioning the project, accusing them of attempting to politicise a development initiative aimed at boosting the state’s economy and transportation sector.
Gateway Air is part of broader infrastructure investments by the Ogun State Government, including the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, which is designed to enhance logistics, trade, and regional connectivity.
Officials maintain that the launch of the airline represents a major milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen its aviation sector and attract economic opportunities.
